This project involved the renovation of an existing primary bathroom and adjacent walk-in closet, which were combined to create a single, expansive primary bath retreat. Located in Madison, this midcentury home retains many of its original features, so it was important that the new bathroom design honor and reflect the home's historic character while thoughtfully updating it for modern living. The space features a generous steam shower, a freestanding soaking tub, and a material palette that embraces earthy tones while nodding to midcentury aesthetics. Highlights include a custom walnut vanity, handcrafted 4x4 green tile, playful patterned floor tile, terrazzo accents, and warm brass fixtures throughout.
The design blends midcentury modern influences with contemporary sensibilities, emphasizing craftsmanship, comfort, and a connection to natural materials. The result is a timeless bathroom that feels both fresh and enduring — a restorative, thoughtfully detailed space designed for daily rituals and quiet moments alike.
